Sirius shook his head again softly as James talked about Jason. He couldn’t help the way his lips twisted down when James mentioned the love between the two of them. But he didn’t want to comment. Didn’t want to think about it. He glanced over at James again and was nodding along with him long before he stopped speaking. “I feel the same way.” He said immediately. “I dunno, maybe it is horrible, but I’m glad he’s dead.” It sounded so brutal coming out of his mouth and he pressed his lips shut quickly. “Just.. yeah. I can walk around now, and not have to look both ways before crossing any corridor. Don’t have to worry about Moons every time he’s not right beside me - and well, still even then…” Sirius looked over at Remus again. “Yeah… yeah it’s probably a good thing…”
It wasn’t an easy thing for James to show weakness. He hated it. Hated seeming like he was going to be beaten. But at that moment, James felt beaten. And it was Sirius. If he trusted anybody to see his weakness, to see through the confident, superemely unruffled leader that James tried to be, it was Sirius Black. So James rubbed at his eyes under his glasses and choked out a sigh.
“Fuck, Sirius,” he groaned, tilting his head back. “I thought I was ready for this shit, you know? This is ridiculous and we’ve barely started.”
