James Potter, 17 years of age, and basically the best person you will ever meet.

Gryffindor Chaser and Captain, bloody brilliant Quidditch player, handsome, windswept, talented, clever, hilarious and altogether fun to be around. Oh, and Head Boy, as well.

Gryffindor for the cup!

Sirius glanced over at him again and he sighed. It was suddenly getting to be less and less surprising to see James like this. The last few weeks had been hard on all of them, and Sirius had seen James as his worst, pouring over that map like a mad man, staying up at night. Sirius sighed again. “Yeah.” He agreed quietly. “I dunno, Prongs. It sound so good to fight, yeah? To beat them. But…” He looked back at Remus. “I already don’t know how much more of that I can do. That… that just about killed me, James.” He said shaking his head. “And it’s just going to get worse. When we get out of the castle. When Dumbledore isn’t right beside us all the time…”

“I know,” James agreed mournfully. It had been a matter of glory, something exciting, action worth taking when this had first began. It wasn’t an option to sit around and let the injustices continue. He wanted to take a stand, to go down in glory if he was going down at all, to make a difference. But the reality of it was hitting him, as memories of Sirius’s broken expression, Remus’s scared whimpers, Lily’s screams of pain attacked him one after the other. His mouth mashed into a grim line.

“I think we need to talk to Dumbledore,” James said, for what felt like the millionth time. He’d feel better about this with Dumbledore on his side. “We were stupid to think we could do this alone. We need to fight, but we need to fight with someone.”

James hated admitting needing help.
