James’ hands brushed over her skin as he fastened the necklace and made goosebumps rise up on her neck. But then she felt him mouth and Lily let out a happy sigh. How did she manage to get someone quite so perfect?
Once he’d pulled back, Lily sat round to face him and took the glass. It was the second time she’d noticed that he was surprisingly good at picking out wine especially since Lily never usually liked it.
She hadn’t noticed the leather tie on his wrist until then and grinned, “I’m glad you like it. It’s not too…” she bit her lip trying to place the right word, “girlie? Sappy? Oh I don’t know… it’s really okay?”
“I think the word you’re searching for is ‘sentimental’,” James grinned at her, crinkling his nose and playing with the charm between his fingers. He looked around furtively, as if checking they were alone, and then pushed his glasses up his nose. “Don’t tell anyone, but I secretly love sentimental.”
Well, he loved it when it was Lily Evans. Other people had always made him scoff with their emotions and their sappy love confessions. That wasn’t really how James Potter dealt with emotions. James Potter wrote stupid poems that were meant to be exaggerated and spouted nonsense and, all in all, exaggerated his feelings with the express intent of thereby downplaying them.
But she’d always broken all of his rules.
